Victoria Corby shares her insights on gaining confidence and finding your voice as a writer

Victoria is no stranger to publication, either in the traditional way or via self-publishing. She is a Times bestselling author of three mainstream novels: Something Stupid, The Seven Week Itch and Up to No Good, which is set in a holiday cottage in France.

Of Seven Week Itch, Victoria writes on her blog, ‘In many ways I’m fondest of this book of all that I’ve written because it was so easy.  I started it high on the excitement of having a proper two-book contract and it simply flowed out, I was writing 2-2,500 words a day without pushing myself, I’ve never managed that sort of output again. I still like it, it’s unashamedly light and I really enjoyed editing it for this edition.’

Victoria has lived in the region of Bordeaux for 20 years and her popular blog chronicles her life in France, her writing and her beloved Dalmatian dogs – some of whom appear as delightful fictionalised pets in her novels.

She has reissued all three of her novels on Amazon kindle and Theo Waite (female, despite the name!) designed the elegant and stylish covers.

Victoria says she wrote her first novel because, living in France in the early 1990s, pre-internet/amazon/kindle and without access to English libraries, she was bored and it was the kind of book she would have liked to read herself. Having had the manuscript rejected by the first 10 agents she sent it to (only 10, says Vanessa!), she knows from personal experience the challenges to becoming established as a professional writer.

In her talk at our literary festival Victoria will therefore share her insights on gaining confidence and finding one’s voice as a writer. Sunday 13thOctober at 2.30 pm in the Mairie.
